Woman On Top

Woman On Top

  • Rating: Woman On Top rated 1
  • Director:
  • Starring: Murilo Benicio
  • Details: US / 91 mins / (15PG).

Beautiful Brazilian chef Isabella (Cruz) catches her husband cheating and heads for San Francisco to shack up with her drag artist best friend. But seeing as she's so alluring, Isabella soon winds up with her own television cookery show and a host of suitors - not least her apologetic husband, Toninho (Benicio).
If this all sounds contrived, that's because it is. Woman On Top is a weak film in every aspect - script, dialogue, acting, direction. It aspires to be seen as a work of magical realism, but the shoddy execution merely antagonises. Penelope Cruz looks nice throughout, though.
