Weirdsville

A couple of stoner slackers (Bentley and Bhaneja) face quite the predicament when one of their girlfriends overdoses on their stash. Being degenerative sorts who rarely think straight, on account of being high as a kite in a hurricane, they decide to bury her at the local drive-in theatre, resulting in some dark comedic moments. Director Moyle is a curious sort who made two cult flicks (Empire Records and Pump Up The Volume), and then kind of disappeared into direct-to-DVD obscurity - a shame, given the quality of the two aforementioned flicks. He isn't the only talent involved with Weirdsville who never quite fully tapped their potential though, as Wes Bentley was showered with all sorts of praise after his turn in American Beauty, then struggled to find decent roles after Four Feathers flopped massively at the box office. What we have here is a small, independent feature that will probably find a more comfortable home on DVD, just as Empire Records did. Films like this struggle to book sufficient theatres, or even find a distributor willing to take them on unless they've come over the pond having won a bunch of awards or received massive buzz. Weirdsville may have received some decent reviews, but nothing like the attention that requires a break-out hit. That said, it could still be worth your time as the premise sounds suitably dark, and all of Moyle's flicks have a kicking soundtrack at the very least.
