Trouble With Sex
- Rating:

- Director: Fintan Connolly
- Starring: Aidan Gillen
- Details: Ire/ 100 mins/ (15PG)
An Irish made drama, Trouble with Sex follows Michelle (Renee Weldon), an impossibly well-to-do Dublin lawyer (even by their standards) who discovers that her doctor boyfriend Ivan (Declan Conlon) has been cheating on her. After breaking up with him, she meets Conor (Aidan Gillen), who works behind the bar in his father's boozer, and quickly develops a thing for the moody-looking barman. Before long the pair have hooked up, but little in their relationship seems to run smoothly.
Although one can't fault the intentions of the filmmakers and screenwriters in making a bright modern day Dublin romantic drama, Trouble with Sex is too slight and one-dimensional to register much of an impact. Unconvincing plots may be a trademark of this genre, but the greatest misstep of Trouble with Sex lies in the unconvincing characters and their frankly bewildering actions. Connolly may be attempting to make a comment on the evolution of the roles in sexual power games, but that his characters are neither particularly likable nor believable doesn't help his cause.
