Billed as a modern day retelling of Snow White, there isn't very much about the plot outline for this that will cause you to pre-book tickets if you're not an infantile female still awaiting the rubber-stamping of womanhood. Amanda Bynes is a likeable enough lead, and chose wisely to accept a supporting role in Hairspray; but any film she headlines is aimed squarely at the young teenager market and co-stars 'hotties' with names like 'Chad' and 'Chuck'. The director isn't exactly Fincher either, having helmed one of the American Pie direct-to-DVD sequels and other flicks like Sleepover and (the currently in production) B.F.F. That said, the only thing worse than a bad film is a pretentious one, and this should upset no one and please its star's core fan base no end.
