Repo Men

Repo Men

  • Rating: Repo Men rated 2.5
  • Director: Miguel Sapochnik
  • Starring: Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, Alice Braga, Liev Schreiber
  • Details: US/111mins 18

Inherently ridiculous on almost every level, with plot holes that straddle the production like a cheap hooker fighting to be paid, Repo Men is still nowhere as crap as I assumed it would be. That doesn't make it good; it just means Jude Law allowing the hairs on his chest grow past pubescent Orlando Bloom levels has evidently given him enough testosterone to, just about, carry an action film. I could literally spend this entire review pointing out all the inexplicable character turns, and the sloppy linking of said characters to a plot that uses Alex Cox's 1984 original as a loose, retro guide. What Repo Men does really well - if nothing else - is deliver seriously abrasive action; that coupled with innumerable scenes of spontaneous surgery will give the gore hounds out there plenty to salivate over. The violence is surprisingly vicious and graphic; with one particular chap having his head crushed by an old school typewriter - in close-up.
