Hollywood turns to Asia once more for horror movie ideas; One Missed Call is a remake of 2004 J-Horror 'Chakushin Ari' and has a plotline that's eerily similar to The Ring. Shannyn Sossamon plays Beth, a woman who's traumatised by the recent deaths of two of her friends. Upon further investigation, she discovers that they received chilling messages on their mobiles days before their demise, which were recordings of their imminent final moments. Ed Burns plays the investigating detective who - funnily enough - also has personal experience of similar tragic circumstances. They edge closer to the truth, but then Beth's phone starts to ring with a chilling tone and the screen says 'one missed call'.. It all sounds very familiar, but the remakes of The Ring, The Grudge etc. have been at least entertaining, if certainly dumbed-down. Worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.
