James P. 'Sully' Sullivan (Goodman) is a blue and purple eight-foot giant, who along with his green one-eyed best pal, Mike Wazowski (Crystal), make up the most formidable team of 'scarers' in the employment of the Monsters Inc. Corporation. During the middle of the night, (and via a time portal), Sully prowls into kids' bedrooms to frighten them and Mike records their screams, which are used a power source in the alternative dimension where the monsters live. But when a little girl, Boo (Mary Gibbs), follows Sully back into his own world, it throws everything the monsters hold dear into chaos. Dreamworks' Shrek might have heralded a new dawn for animation, but the traditional leaders of the pack, Disney, have responded in remarkable form with the stunning Monsters Inc. Beautifully animated and told, Monsters Inc. is a delightful film that hurdles along at an exceptional pace. Admittedly it's not quite as witty as Shrek or indeed, Pixar's own Toy Story, but ultimately even the most cynical will find it extremely hard to resist this charming movie. Trust me.
