Monsoon Wedding

Monsoon Wedding

  • Rating: Monsoon Wedding rated 4
  • Director:
  • Starring: Lillete Dubey
  • Details: Ind/ 114 mins / (15PG).

Businessman Lalit (Naseeruddin Shah) and his wife (Lillete Dubey) are the mother and father of a large, extended family in modern day New Delhi. When their only daughter, Aditi (Vasundara Das) is set up for an arranged marriage with young engineer, Hermant (Parvin Dalas), the family decide that they will have the most lavish wedding ever witnessed in New Delhi. However, family secrets, like Aditi's affair with a married man soon out and only serve to complicate matters. Despite the large number of actors involved in the movie, director Nair handles them all as if they were central players, offering them sufficient time to breath life into their respective characters. While the director is rewarded with exquisitely centered comic performances by all of her main players, her energetic, yet deft direction seamlessly blends high comedy and family drama. Although it's a trifle lengthy, Monson Wedding is a fine, informative and witty snapshot of a modern family wrestling with tradition and change.
