A Brief Encounter-style tale of impossible love and repressed emotions, set in Hong Kong, finds Cheung and Leung thrown together when they discover that their respective spouses are having an affair. Wong Kar-Wai's story is beautifully photographed and acted out in degrees of excruciating subtlety.
