Creep
- Rating:

- Director:
- Starring: Franka Potente
- Details: UK/ 90 mins/ (18).
Desperate to make it to a VIP party where she hopes to meet George Clooney, superficial young PR executive Kate (Franka Potente) decides to take the subway across London. Falling asleep in the underground, Kate misses her train, the last of the evening, and finds herself locked into the station. Pretty soon, though, it becomes apparent that she's not the only one down there. Which, as you may have guessed since this is a horror, isn't a good thing.
You don't have to be familiar with the London underground to appreciate the potential of the premise of Creep, but director Christopher Smith never quite manages to get to grips with things satisfactorily. Though he starts out promisingly enough, the writer-director appears to lose confidence in his ability to deliver on the possibilities of his stripped down premise. Either that, or he runs out of ideas completely, for even long before the identity of Kate's pursuer is revealed, Creep has drifted into the realm of the predictable. Simple as it may be, the sheer verve of that intriguing idea deserved a little more than that.
