Blade - Trinity

Blade - Trinity

  • Rating: Blade - Trinity rated 1
  • Director: David S. Goyer
  • Starring: Dominic Purcell
  • Details: US/ 112 mins/ (18s).

Blade - not bad. Blade 2 - vaguely tiresome cash-in. Now, you don't have to posses the foresight of a psychic to predict the probable arc in quality of the third instalment in the series, Blade: Trinity. For those of you who managed to sidestep the first two movies, the story revolves around Blade (Snipes), a half-man, half-vampire whose mission it is to destroy the vampires who walk amongst us. Two films into his career and a lot of slaughtered vampires later, Blade comes against his toughest opponent - Drake nee Dracula, whom a group of ambitious bloodsuckers - led by Danica Talos (Posey) - discovered in Syria.
With its most original concept being its title, there's not an awful lot to commend about the lumpy, bloated and overly serious Blade: Trinity. Essentially a series of lengthy and rather bland Matrix-lite fights, punctuated by some of the most ludicrous dialogue this side of a Sly Stallone triple bill ("Caught with our pants down? They pretty much ass raped us"), Blade: Trinity is nothing more than an exercise in trashiness. Twelve-year-old boys may enjoy it, but one would hope they may more sense than this film credits its audience with. It's not a film; it's a transaction - and a cheap one at that.
