Animal Attraction

Animal Attraction

  • Rating: Animal Attraction rated 2
  • Director:
  • Starring: Ashley Judd
  • Details: US / 100 mins / (12PG).

Predictable romantic comedy in which Jane Goodale (Ashley Judd) believes she has met her perfect man in Ray (Greg Kinnear). Yet his inability to commit, leads Jane to develop a theory on the animal-like mating habits of males. Written under a pseudonym in her friend's men's magazine, Jane's theory soon becomes a nationwide sensation, while her new flatmate Eddie (Jackman) and his womanising ways provides plenty of material.
There's enviable scope for great comedy in Someone Like You, but unfortunately it's rarely maximised. As you'd expect, the characters all confirm to the rom com stereotypes - unlucky lead, ditsy best friend, men = bastards etc - but Judd doesn't have the charisma needed to hold everything together. To his credit, though, Jackman does his best to infuse things with some vibrancy. Watchable but by no means essential.
