An excellent period drama based on William Thackeray's sprawling novel, in which low-born Becky Sharpe (Witherspoon) flirts her way into the higher echelons of society only to find that women are treated just as badly there. The excellent cast does justice to a Jane Austen-with-an-edge storyline, resulting in a juicy bodice-ripping melodrama.
