Stephen Sommers helmed the Mummy movies; here he oversees Hugh Jackman's pursuit of Dracula, Frankenstein's monster and The Wolfman (the venerable monster-masher sees off Mr Hyde in a prologue too). A full-on schlock-'n'-awe assault on the senses, Van Helsing devotes all its efforts to bogeymen to the detriment of Jackman-Beckinsale interplay. Disappointing.
