Donal is an easygoing Northern Irish teenager with a laidback 'live and let live' attitude. He works part time for Good Joe, a greyhound trainer who isn't all that good. When Donal falls for a particular dog, The Mighty Celt, Good Joe makes a deal with him - if the mutt wins three races, he gets to keep it. Meanwhile Donal's mother Kate is wrestling with ghosts from her past when her murdered brother's IRA comrade O (Carlyle) makes a reappearance. Ultimately a feel good family drama with a dark (but not too dark) undertone, The Mighty Celt is a well worn and predicable story. Happily the film's authenticity and the obvious gelling of the three leads (Anderson, Carlyle and McKenna) make this unessential drama an engaging one nonetheless.
