Saints and Soldiers - based on real events leading to the Battle of the Bulge - tells the story of 4 American soldiers trapped behind enemy lines in the depths of a Belgium winter. With little resources the 4 run into a British intelligence officer carrying valuable information for the Allied forces and this fragile unit band together in an increasingly desperate situation. The bleak surroundings of the film are vividly portrayed, though at times the glossiness of the cinematography leads to a loss of authenticity, and the cast, largely made up of TV and B-movie actors, make a good job of the limited narrative. That said, there is a certain element of accomplishment to the production and the 5 main actors, plus director Little, are ones to look out for in the future.
