Paris, 1899. Poet Christian (McGregor) falls in love with Moulin Rouge dancer Satine (Kidman), but the course of love never doth run smoothly. Luhrman's lavish homage to the musical genre is a deliriously over-the-top extravaganza in which the wildly enthusiastic cast seem to positively luxuriate in the unconventional material.
