An engaging biopic of the writer Iris Murdoch (Dench / Winslet), with the narrative emphasis on her relationship with her husband John Bayley (Broadbent / Bonneville), Iris boasts strong performances from the leading quartet. Director Eyre deserves credit for his unsentimental treatment of Murdoch's battle with Alzheimer's disease.
