Jonathon S Foer (Woods) is an American Jewish writer/collector who heads to Lithuania after his grandmother gives him a photograph on her deathbed of the woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis. In Lithuania Alex (Hutz), his father and his bigoted grandfather run a family business helping rich American Jews find their dead relatives. From these wonderfully cynical beginnings emerges a genuinely funny clash of cultures, ideas and robust dialogue provided by colourful English translator Alex. Things take a dark turn however, when the parallel narrative about roots, redemption and our relationship with the past takes centre stage. A carnal and premium film.
