Although heavily inspired by The Matrix, Equilibrium is a passable sci-fi thriller short on originality, but is not lacking when it comes to pure spectacle. Bale is a member of the futuristic thought police whose faith in the oppressive system is irreparably shaken after he falls for a young woman (Watson). It may lack the pure invigoration of its inspirations (Matrix, Blade Runner), but Equilibrium works as a piece of no-brainer action.
