France, 1943. When her lover is shot down over occupied territory, SOE operative Charlotte (Blanchett) volunteers to work undercover behind enemy lines. A worthy adaptation of Sebastian Faulks' novel, the film falls between emphasising Charlotte's internal conflict and the more difficult chore of condensing the French wartime resistance to a single story.
