Question: What is the point in forking over (presumably) a lot of money to secure the voice of Justin Long when you're just going to speed up his voice past recognition? Is it just to get a 'name' on the marquee? If so, what will Justin Long mean to the age group this comedy is pitched at? What does Justin Long mean to anyone? The Alvin Show was an early '60s TV series aired on the back of a novelty record called The Chipmunk Song. The characters - Alvin, Simon and Theodore - were created by Ross Bagdasarian and the series enjoyed a second stab at fame in 1983, and again in 1987 as an animated feature. 2007 sees a live action adaptation and boy, is it annoying. Wisecracking chipmunks Alvin (voiced by Justin Long), Simon and Theodore are forced to vacate their tree when it is chopped down for Christmas. They wind up in Dave's (Lee) house, a frustrated musician who can't get anyone to buy his jingles. Dave discovers that not only can the chipmunks talk, they can sing too, and sets about writing music for them. However, the cute little rodents get Dave into a lot of trouble first. Most children's movies these days appeal to both the kids and the adults; but Alvin And The Chipmunks, parents will be distraught to hear, doesn't. The kids - really young kids - will get a kick out of their antics and enjoy their versions of The Platters' Only You and Lipps Inc.'s Funkytown. However, parents are advised to bring a hip flask - you'll need it.
