A semi-autobiographical tale, this twist on the let's-do-the-show-here-kids routine finds Eminem struggling to escape his trailer-trash background via a Detroit rapping competition. Surprisingly, perhaps, it's all very good indeed; the setting is grittily realistic, and the performances are excellent. The soundtrack, naturally, is the real bonus.
