Two Surprise Movies Top The US Box Office
It was surprising weekend at the US box-office, as two new releases over performed and one, with the biggest budget of the new batch, didn't do the business that was expected.
Chronicle and The Woman in Black were in a dead heat for the top spot, taking an estimated $22 million and $21 million respectively. But being that these are estimates, it could change when final numbers come through. The film that bombed was the John Krasinski/Drew Barrymore whale rescuing flick, Big Miracle - which took $8.5 million. A sweet enough production, it still doesn't showcase Krasinski enough as the charming, comically gifted bastard he is. Both Chronicle and Woman in Black were low cost productions that will return big profits for their respective studios.
This week sees the launch of the very cool Safe House, Journey 2 and The Vow.
